On February 22, gau rakshaks murdered a driver’s assistant while he and the driver were transporting cattle from Rajasthan to Lucknow. According to the driver, the police stopped them, called the cow-vigilantes, and handed them over. The vigilantes then brutally assaulted both men and dumped them in a drain, assuming they were dead.
