X handle of Kashmir Life with held in India

By  KL News Network

SRINAGAR: The official Twitter (X) account of Kashmir Life, a prominent English-language news portal based in Srinagar, was withheld in India around 12:00 pm on May 11, 2025. Visitors to the account were shown a standard platform message: “@KashmirLife has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand.”

No details have yet been provided by Twitter (X) about the legal grounds for the action. The withholding comes in the backdrop of the company’s disclosure earlier this month that it had received legal demands from the Government of India to restrict access to more than 8,000 accounts.

Kashmir Life, which is in its 17th year of continuous publication, said it deeply regrets the move and described it as an “assault on free speech and constitutional guarantees.” The platform has nearly 300 thousand followers on X, many of whom rely on it for daily news and updates from the region.

The news organisation reaffirms its commitment to ethical journalism in Jammu and Kashmir and would explore options to seek a review of the action. The organisation also plan to approach press freedom and journalistic advocacy bodies for support.
