The lawyer representing the Muslim family, a member of which named Muhammad Bhura was burned to death inside his car, has alleged that cow vigilantes had been trying to extort them, demanding ₹25,000, threatening they would “see what will happen to their car” if the money was not paid. According to the lawyer, the deceased had refused to pay the extortion money despite repeated threats. The brother of the deceased also alleged that it was a planned murder.
The lawyer stated that the family of the second man, who was found nearby with severe injuries and remains unconscious in the ICU, had mentioned signs of assault on his body.
