The Delhi High Court on Monday granted an interim stay on the demolition of multiple properties in Okhla’s Batla House area, following petitions filed by local residents.
Justice Tejas Karia ordered that the status quo be maintained until the next hearing on July 10.
The High Court also issued a notice to the DDA, seeking its response within four weeks.
The bench was hearing petitions filed on behalf of Heena Parveen, Jinat Kausar, Rukhsana Begam, Nihal Fatima, Sufiyan Ahmed, Sajid Fakhar, and others.
The demolition notices were posted on buildings with unauthorised construction in Batla House following a May 7 order from the Supreme Court that directed the removal of illegal structures.
Some of the residents claimed that their properties are covered under the PM-UDAY scheme, a government initiative aimed at providing legal ownership rights to residents of unauthorised colonies in Delhi.
Counsel for the petitioners submitted that they have lived there for a long time and purchased the properties from builders.
