Assam Police have arrested two more individuals in connection with social media posts, bringing the total number of arrests to 92 since the Pahalgam attack in April, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The two arrested individuals were identified as Sabikul Islam and Dulal Bora.
“Anti-Hindu elements nabbed! Crackdown continues,” the chief minister wrote in a post on X announcing the arrest.
“Total 92 culprits behind bars,” he said.
Most of those arrested are Muslims.
Many of the arrested have alleged that the police are taking advantage of the current situation to arrest Muslim youths.
He had earlier said the “state-wide crackdown on traitors will continue and nobody will be spared.”
The police have intensified action against what it calls “anti-India and pro-Pakistan activities” in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack.
In 2025, Assam saw multiple arrests over social media posts.
Earlier, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on sedition charges after allegedly making remarks in defense of Pakistan and its complicity in the Pahalgam terror attack. Though he was granted bail, he was later booked under the National Security Act (NSA).
