During rising communal tensions in Coastal Karnataka, two men on a motorcycle brutally murdered Rahiman, a pick-up driver, in broad daylight while he was unloading sand in Bantwal. Shafi, who was with him, was injured and hospitalized. Authorities imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
Rahiman’s murder is the third in Dakshina Kannada within a month, following the lynching of Mohammed Ashraf on April 27 and the killing of Suhas Shetty on May 1. The incident sparked public outrage, with many blaming hate speech and demanding arrests of those inciting communal tensions.
