In a meeting held to submit a report on the alleged encroachment of land belonging to the Satras (Vaishnavite monasteries), Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that “newly arrived” Muslims have “weaponised” illegal encroachment, along with the killing and consumption of beef, as tactics to drive out local communities from areas surrounding the Satras. He further described the consumption of beef and the sound of the Azaan from a mosque near a Satra as “non-negotiable” issues.
