An FIR was lodged in Moradabad against Karni Sena leader Yogendra Rana after a video he allegedly posted online, containing “offensive” remarks about Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan, sparked widespread criticism.
The FIR was filed at Katghar police station on Sunday, under sections 79 and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 67 of the IT Act, following a complaint by advocate Sunita Singh.
The video, posted on July 18 and allegedly uploaded by Yogendra Rana himself, in which he said, “I accept the marriage with Iqra, Owaisi will call me brother-in-law and I will also permit him to offer prayers at home,”sparked sharp criticism and was widely seen as an “insult to a woman MP.”
The video which contained personal and inappropriate remarks about Hasan, was deleted within two hours following public backlash.
After the complaint was filed, Yogendra Rana went missing, prompting the police to launch an investigation to trace his whereabouts.
Calling it a “vulgar and shameful” remark, Kishanganj MP Dr Md Jawaid said,” This isn’t just cheap talk. It’s a planned act of harassment, communal hate, and gendered intimidation. Shame on those protecting him.”
