The Assam Police detained Solidarity Youth Movement leaders from Kerala state while they were visiting Dhubri district to meet the families of victims affected by the widespread Bulldozer Raj carried out under the BJP-led government of Himanta Biswa Sarma, and to study the rehabilitation and relief efforts.
State President Thoufeeq Mampad, State Secretary Shabeer Koduvally, who is also a secretary of the National Federation of Youth Movement, and Sajid P.M. were taken into custody by Assam Police and brought to Chepri Police Station.
They were stopped by the police at a checkpost while traveling by road to Dhubri, along with Assam Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) President Ramees Abdulla.
Their belongings, including mobile phones, were confiscated, and they were denied any means of communicating with the outside world, allegedly on the grounds that visiting the area was not permitted.
After hours of detention, they were released and instructed to leave Assam.
The police reportedly escorted them to the hotel station and accompanied them all the way to the West Bengal border.
