In Jodhpur, a Dalit student at Jai Narayan Vyas University’s New Campus has been assaulted, reportedly by ABVP leader Ravindra Singh Banta and several others. The incident occurred in the university hostel, located in the Bhagat Ki Kothi police station area.
According to the victim, Kamal Kishore, a B.Sc final-year student from Jaisalmer, the attack happened when he did not attend a gathering to welcome BJP leader Satish Poonia. During this time, Ravindra Singh Banta and three to four associates entered the hostel and physically attacked him.
Kamal Kishore sustained a fracture in his finger and deep injuries around his ribs and stomach. He is currently receiving treatment at Mathuradas Mathur Hospital in Jodhpur. The attack reportedly included casteist slurs, prompting outrage among Dalit organizations, who visited Bhagat Ki Kothi police station to protest.
The police have registered a case under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Officer Rajeev Bhadu confirmed that the matter is being taken seriously and that the investigation has begun based on the victim’s complaint.
