In Bhimtal, CM Dhami Pushes ‘Land Jihad’ Crackdown and Madrasa Closures

Location: Bhimtal, Nainital, Uttarakhand

At the Inauguration and public meeting of development works, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted his government’s measures to maintain the “culture and demographic composition” of the state. He mentioned the implementation of laws against religious conversion, riots, “love jihad,” “land jihad,” and “thook jihad,” and claimed that strict action was being taken against “Mullawadi extremist tendencies.” He claimed that action against “land jihad” had resulted in “freeing” over 10,000 acres of government land, which he claims the Congress is opposing, asserting that land jihad won’t be tolerated. He claimed that the government was acting against a “divisive mentality” by introducing a bill to dissolve the madrasa board, adding that only those madrasas in Uttarakhand that teach the syllabus prescribed by their respective education boards would be allowed to operate. Dhami stated, “In Devbhoomi, we want to establish temples of knowledge and values, not “jihadi” centres that promote tribal or isolationist mindsets,” claiming closure of 250 madrasas, which he described as “illegal.” Dhami referenced an initiative called “Operation Kalnemi,” describing it as a campaign against “ghuspaithiya” who he alleged were targeting and harming “Sanatan Sanskriti.” He spoke on temple beautification projects across the state, and accused the opposition of favouring the “Babri Masjid,” but having problems with temples and alleged that his government would not tolerate a “Mughal mentality.”
