Bageshwar Dham’s head priest, Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri said that India would not become a Hindu nation by abusing Muslims, but by reforming shortcomings within the Hindu community itself. Speaking in Banda, he said Hindus must correct their own malpractices, only then can the country move forward.

Referring to divorce practices, Shastri said that in some communities divorce is frequent, while in the Hindu community it involves lengthy legal procedures. “Wherever you look, there is divorce. May God protect us. We have nothing to say, otherwise riots may break out,” he remarked. He added that different communities have their own systems and ways of life, and there is nothing wrong with that. “If we stay within limits, it will benefit everyone,” he said.

Shastri further stated, “Our job is to go from door to door, their job is to create obstacles, and God’s job is to take care of everything. Remember one thing—if you have faith in God, He will never let your faith break.”

He also cautioned against mixing religious practices, saying that people should have complete faith in one path rather than switching between different rituals and then blaming God for unanswered prayers.

Pandit Dhirendra Shastri visited Banda on the invitation of BJP MLA Prakash Dwivedi. After arriving, his convoy reached the MLA’s residence in Khurand. From there, he offered prayers along with the MLA at the Kailasheshwar Mahadev temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and participated in the ongoing Sundarkand recitation at the temple.
