The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested a journalist from Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district for allegedly uploading an “objectionable” and “provocative” image of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Facebook.

The case was registered on Monday at the city police station following a complaint filed by Amrish Kumar Pandey, the general secretary of the BJP’s Hanumanganj Mandal unit.

According to the FIR, the accused, identified as Pawan Tiwari, has been booked under Section 196(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to promoting enmity between different groups on grounds such as religion, race, or place of birth.

Police said the post, uploaded on Sunday, featured an “objectionable” image of the Chief Minister along with a “controversial caption.” The complainant alleged that the content was intended to disturb social harmony, incite a particular community, and create disorder.

Tiwari allegedly shared a Facebook post featuring an image that depicted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath pulling the tuft of a Brahmin, accompanied by the caption:

“In a saint’s country, a Ravana tore apart the nation’s dignity. Those who call themselves yogis and have Brahmin youths beaten with shoes by pulling their tufts, Sanatanis will never forget this.”

Station House Officer (SHO) Kshitij Tripathi confirmed that Tiwari, 35, was arrested on Monday and later sent to jail.
