The Vice-Chancellor of CT University in Punjab resigned on Tuesday following allegations of misbehaviour raised by a group of Kashmiri students who had sought sehri and iftar arrangements in the university mess during the ongoing month of Ramadan..
University Chancellor and Chairman Charanjit Singh Channi confirmed the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Nitin Tandon was accepted to restore normalcy on campus. He noted that the private university has initiated an internal inquiry while local authorities continue to monitor the situation.
According to students, they had requested the administration to arrange sehri and iftar meals in the mess to accommodate those observing the fast.
The students alleged that when the request remained unaddressed, a confrontation took place during which the Vice-Chancellor “abused them, made derogatory remarks, and threatened to cancel their admissions.”
The incident drew political attention after Iltija Mufti, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take action.
