Eid Prayer Standoff in Mainpuri: Police Threat Sparks Outrage in Kurawali Village.

By Muslim Mirror Desk

A tense confrontation unfolded in Kurawali village, Mainpuri district, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, when local Muslims were reportedly prevented from offering Eid namaz at a decades-old Eidgah.

A viral video captured the heated exchange between Mainpuri’s Kurawali Station House Officer (SHO) Lalit Bhati and the worshippers. The SHO instructed the gathered Muslims to vacate the premises, citing complaints from locals about disturbances and directing them to pray inside the designated area.

Eidgah caretaker Shakir Hussain argued that prayers had been held there for years without issue. The discussion escalated when SHO Bhati reportedly lost his temper and threatened, “Mein yahi gaad dunga” (I will bury you here), intensifying the situation.

Community members intervened to calm Hussain and de-escalate. Local Hindus stepped forward, assuring the officer they had no objections to the prayers continuing as tradition.

Despite the support, SHO Bhati remained firm, leading to arguments that lasted about 20 minutes. Eventually, the Muslims were allowed to proceed with their Eid namaz.

The incident, widely shared on social media, has sparked discussions on religious freedoms and police conduct during community observances in the region.
