In Bhopal, AHP–Rashtriya Bajrang Dal Threatens to Beat and Humiliate Valentine’s Day Couples

Location: Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

Members of the Antarrashtriya Hindu Parishad (AHP) and Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, led by leader Rakesh Prajapati, conducted a “dand pujan” (stick worship) ceremony to protest Valentine’s Day celebrations, alleging obscenity and claiming the occasion violates Indian culture. Prajapati announced that 12 teams would patrol across Bhopal on February 14 to track down couples and threatened that if found, they would beat them, shave their heads, and publicly humiliate them by parading them on a donkey. Participants raised slogans including, “Wherever we find ‘babu’ and ‘sona,’ we will break every corner,” “Wherever we find Bunty-Babli, we will break their bones,” and “Down with Valentine’s Day.”
