New Delhi: The Sambhal district administration on Thursday (April 16) demolished an Imambara and Eidgah in Bicholi village, terming the structure as illegally constructed on government land. Amid tight security arrangements made to prevent any possible law-and-order situation, the structure was demolished using multiple bulldozers, reported Hindustan Times.

According to officials, the land in question was officially recorded as a manure pit and the Tehsildar court had issued an eviction order in January, directing the removal of encroachments from the site.

The district administration thereafter started preparing for the removal and included the formation of a special team of revenue officials to oversee the process.

On Thursday, at around 9am, a team from the administration arrived with four bulldozers. Thereafter, the demolition drive started and the structures of the Imambara and Eidgah were demolished in the presence of sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Nidhi Patel, reported Hindustan Times.

Owing to the sensitive nature of the operation, the entire area was turned into a police cantonment, with the deployment of Personnel from the Rapid Response Force (RRF) and the local police.

District magistrate Rajendra Pensiya said that the action was strictly in compliance with court orders and emphasised that the objective was to free government land from encroachment.
