In a significant administrative operation, authorities in Khalilabad, Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, began demolishing an alleged illegal madrassa in the Meat Mandi (Moti Nagar) area on April 26, 2026, under heavy police deployment.

The action followed the dismissal of an appeal by the madrassa committee against a demolition notice, clearing all legal obstacles.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Hriday Ram Tiwari confirmed that no cases remained pending in any court. “There is no case pending in any court now in this connection, and therefore action has been initiated,” he stated. The committee’s appeal had been rejected just a day earlier by higher authorities, paving the way for the bulldozer action.

According to district officials, the madrassa was constructed without any sanctioned building plan and encroached upon government land recently merged with public property.

The structure, spread over approximately 640 square metres, was built around eight years ago without proper approvals. Senior officers, including Additional District Magistrate Jai Prakash and Circle Officer Priyam Rajshekhar, supervised the demolition to ensure law and order.

The madrassa has been linked to Maulana Shamshul Huda Khan (also referred to as Shamsul Huda Khan), a cleric originally from Azamgarh who acquired British citizenship around 2013.
