The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) Karnataka has written to the Principal of National College, Basavanagudi, expressing strong objection to an upcoming programme titled “Understanding Corporate Jihad: Myths & Facts,” scheduled to be organised on May 16, 2026.
The event is reportedly being organised by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti. APCR has urged the college administration to withdraw permission for the programme, claiming that its title and content could promote communal disharmony.
APCR Alleges “Inflammatory Terminology” and Legal Concerns
In its letter, APCR stated that the use of the term “Corporate Jihad” is “inflammatory” and appears to target a specific religious community.
The organisation warned that such content may violate provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections related to promoting enmity between communities and public mischief.
“Such discourse likely falls under provisions that deal with statements promoting enmity and public disorder,” the letter said, urging the institution to take immediate corrective action.
“Threat to Communal Harmony,” Says Rights Body
APCR also expressed concern that allowing such a programme inside an academic institution could affect campus harmony and the well-being of students and staff.
“National College has a reputation for inclusivity. Allowing such divisive narratives can harm the environment of peace and mutual respect,” the organisation stated.
It further argued that educational institutions are expected to uphold constitutional values and promote scientific thinking under Article 51A of the Constitution.
