In Kamrup, Demolition Drive Targets Homes of 500 Muslim Families

Location: Azara, Kamrup, Assam

The district administration launched a demolition drive targeting the homes of around 500 Muslim families residing on approximately 737 bighas of land, claiming that the area falls within a designated tribal belt where only non-tribals who settled prior to the declaration are permitted to live. The affected families, however, said they had been displaced by floods and river erosion and that many of them had lived in the area for nearly two decades while receiving government benefits.
