BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, speaking at an election campaign rally, urged attendees to form a BJP government if they did not want the state to turn into a “Greater Bangladesh.” He claimed that “Maulabadi Shakti” (fundamentalist forces), with support from the police, had been attacking Hindu businesses while sparing Muslim shops. He further claimed that the BJP is not against Indian Muslims but against what he described as “Maulabadi,” “Jamaati,” and “illegal infiltrators and Rohingyas” from Bangladesh. He promised to curb “land jihad,” “love jihad,” and to reverse what he described as a “demographic shift.”
