In Durgapur, Amit Shah Blames TMC for ‘Infiltration’ and Promises Border Fencing

Location: Durgapur, Paschim Bardhaman, West Bengal

Key themes from Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah’s campaign roadshow speech: “Do you want to make West Bengal ‘ghuspaithiya-mukt’ (free of infiltrators) or not? Can Mamata Banerjee do this? Can her nephew do this? Only a BJP Chief Minister under the leadership of Narendra Modi can achieve this. Mamata Banerjee has devastated Bengal. ‘Ghuspaith’ (infiltration) is happening unchecked, ‘ghuspaithiya’ (infiltrators) are entering while industries are leaving. ‘Ghuspaith’ (infiltration) is a major issue. When the BJP came to power in Assam, infiltration stopped; when the BJP came to power in Tripura, infiltration stopped. In Rajasthan and Gujarat, where the BJP is in power, infiltration does not occur. Mamata Banerjee allows ‘ghuspaithiya’ (infiltrators) to enter for vote bank politics. The BSF has needed 600 acres of land for border fencing for the past seven years, but Mamata Banerjee has not provided it despite repeated requests from Modi. Once a BJP government is formed, within 45 days this land will be given to the BSF to complete fencing. Should ‘ghuspaithiya’ (infiltrators) be removed from the voter list or not? Should the SIR process be used to remove them or not? Mamata Banerjee is opposing this. Now the Supreme Court and the Election Commission are removing ‘ghuspaithiya’ (infiltrators) one by one. Will we make Bengal ‘ghuspaithiya-mukt’ (free of infiltrators)?”
