Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district have arrested seven Muslim men within two days, including the groom’s father and two cooks, in connection with the alleged cooking and serving of beef at a Walima (wedding reception) held at a marriage hall in Kairana on June 18.
Of the seven, three men were arrested on the night of the event, while the latest arrests were made on Wednesday by the Kairana police.
Those arrested have been identified as Furqan, the father of the groom, Farman; two cooks, Ashfaq and Zulfikar; and the owner of the marriage hall, Anees.
The case concerns a Walima ceremony held at the Mughal Garden Marriage Home in Kairana.
On June 18, police conducted a raid at the venue after receiving information that beef was allegedly being served during the feast.
During the operation, police claimed to have recovered cooked meat suspected to be cow meat.
According to police, the investigation revealed that a cow was allegedly slaughtered in the floodplain area of the Yamuna River near Khurgyan village before the meat was transported to the marriage venue in a Scorpio vehicle, where it was cooked and served to guests.
Earlier, police had arrested groom Farman, his maternal uncle Salman, marriage hall operator Anees, and cook Farooq.
Police claim that Khalil, along with other cooks, prepared the meat served at the event after agreeing to cook it for a fixed payment.
