At a Bhavya Hindu Sammelan, Nitesh Rane, a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and Maharashtra Minister for Fisheries, used the slur “green snakes” for Muslims, spread the conspiracy of “love jihad,” and claimed Muslims are “born to do jihad” to turn India into an Islamic state; he also propagated conspiracies including “corporate jihad,” “land jihad,” “halal jihad,” and “ghazwa-e-hind” and called for an economic boycott of Muslims.
