At “Shri Khatu Shyam Sankirtan Mahotsav,” Hindu nationalist singer Kanhaiya Mittal claimed that religious conversion to Christianity displeases ancestors and questioned the presence of hospitals on temples but not on mosques or churches. He asserted that hoisting a saffron (“Bhagwa”) flag symbolises protection from evil and victory, and claimed that a flag on a house signals to any “Abdul” passing by that it belongs to those who “drove it into Babur’s chest” and built the Ram Mandir. He alleged that Bangladeshis and Rohingyas are infiltrating the country, disguising themselves as Hindus to befriend and target Hindu women, and urged Aadhaar-based identity verification. He further called on women to “be like Durga, be like Kali, but never be burqewali,” and urged Hindus to buy only from Hindu-owned businesses. He invoked historical grievance narratives referencing Babur, Akbar, and Aurangzeb, and asserted intolerance towards those he described as “descendants of Aurangzeb” who celebrate India’s losses, stating they should be “boxed up and sent to Pakistan,” and called for renaming roads after Hindu kings.
