BJP MLA Ritesh Tiwari from Kashipur-Belgachia constituency fearmongered over what he termed as “demographic change”, alleging that Hindu women are being systematically targeted by “jihadis” using technology. He claimed the “main issue” was ensuring that “no Hindu woman ends up in a Muslim’s house,” and accused the TMC of supporting those he claimed were seeking to establish Muslim rule in West Bengal. He urged attendees to identify such people and called for their social boycott. He further claimed that he was the first candidate in 74 years to not receive a single Muslim vote, and declared that he would not do a single work or issue a single certificate for them. Invoking PM Narendra Modi’s campaign slogan of “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Hisaab,” he declared that he will “settle the balance.”
