A city magistrate’s court in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur has ordered the eviction and demolition of a mosque located inside the Collectorate premises, holding that the structure was built through the “illegal occupation” of 315 square metres of government land.
The court also imposed compensation of more than ₹6 crore on the occupants, calculating damages for the alleged unauthorised occupation of the land over 70 years.
The order was passed on July 16, 2026, by City Magistrate Kuldeep Singh in proceedings under Section 5 of the Uttar Pradesh Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1972.
According to the 36-page order, a copy of which has been reviewed by Maktoob, the disputed land forms part of Khasra No. 539, recorded in the revenue records as Collectorate/Kachahari land belonging to the Uttar Pradesh government.
The court held that the mosque had been constructed on government property and that its occupants were unauthorised encroachers liable to eviction.
“The mosque constructed over 315 square metres of government land is liable to be evicted from the public premises,” the order states.
The court further directed the authorities to recover ₹6,41,65,500 as damages from the occupants.
