HAPUR — A Muslim woman was allegedly harassed while offering namaz at GS Medical College and Hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur, after a man reportedly played the Hindu hymn Hanuman Chalisa on his mobile phone and recorded the incident.
According to videos circulating on social media, the man, identified as Saurabh Pratap, approached the woman while she was praying inside the hospital premises. He played a recording of the Hanuman Chalisa from YouTube on his phone to disturb her namaz.
The incident was reportedly recorded on video, and the footage was later circulated on social media, prompting criticism.
Posts shared online described the incident as an instance of religious harassment and questioned the conduct of recording and circulating footage of someone engaged in private worship.
The allegations could not be independently verified from official sources at the time of writing. No official statement from the hospital confirming the incident or any action against the person named in the social-media posts was immediately available.
GS Medical College and Hospital is located in Pilkhuwa in Hapur district. The hospital’s own citizen charter states that silence is essential on its premises and asks visitors and attendants to avoid unnecessary noise that can disturb patients.
Netizens are questioning the disruption of a woman’s prayer inside a hospital and calling for greater sensitivity towards people practising their faith.
