BJP workers protested on July 31 against the alleged exclusive sale of halal meat at Mother’s Hut Restaurant near Bhatjangla on National Highway 12 in West Bengal’s Nadia district. The demonstration created a brief standoff outside the eatery.
Hindutva activists entered the restaurant and questioned staff and customers about the meat served. Employees confirmed it was only halal. When the workers asked about jhatka meat and were told none was available, a heated exchange followed. Management explained their policy, but the protesters remained unconvinced.
The group then shifted the protest outside, where it continued for more than two hours. They alleged the restaurant served halal meat without clearly informing Hindu customers or stating it on the menu. BJP worker Uday Rajnath demanded that such restaurants clearly label the type of meat and, where possible, also offer jhatka options for those who prefer it.
Officers from Krishnanagar Kotwali Police Station arrived after being informed of the incident. They spoke with both sides and successfully defused the situation. The protest ended peacefully with no reports of violence or injuries.
