BJP members, led by town president Mandela Balu, assaulted the principal of Bharat Chandra High School, Amer Khan, in the presence of the police. BJP members had been opposing what they alleged was the unauthorised teaching of Urdu to students. Police registered an FIR against the principal and the teachers under Section 196(1)(b) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and committing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony), while registering an FIR against the assailants for trespassing and causing hurt.
