At the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony for development projects, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath alleged that Muharram processions had previously been associated with violence, claiming that sword-wielding participants attacked passersby, demolished poor people’s houses to accommodate tazias, barged into homes, and created public disorder. He asserted that his government had ended such practices and advised organisers to reduce the height of tazias instead of demolishing houses. He further criticised the Samajwadi Party for prioritising graveyard boundary walls over temples and accused it of “kneeling before Mullahs and Maulvis” instead of supporting Ayodhya, Mathura, and Kashi.
