In West Bengal, Hindu Nationalists Urge Christians to Convert to Hinduism

Location: Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal

Hindu nationalist supporters, including members of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the BJP, entered a predominantly Christian neighbourhood, where a far-right Hindu monk urged local Christians to convert to Hinduism. He asked residents to show their Aadhaar cards and identify the religion mentioned on their documents. He questioned why members of the Mondal community had become Christians and accused them of engaging in religious conversions. Calling Christianity a legacy of British rule, he urged the community to return to Hinduism. The villagers protested against their action, citing their constitutional right to practise their religion.
