In Rishikesh, BJP Leader and Hindu Nationalists Harass Muslim Man and Threaten Violent Agitation

Location: Rishikesh, Dehradun, Uttarakhand

BJP leader Sanjeev Chauhan, accompanied by Hindu nationalist supporters, harassed a Muslim man questioning his presence and demanding to see his identity card, accused him of encroaching forest land and spreading “religious radicalism” in the village by inviting people and clerics from outside to offer prayers. They alleged that outsiders were being sheltered to organise congregational prayers, demanded identity documents from Muslim visitors, and called on the administration to take action against the accused within a week, warning of a violent agitation if their demands were not met. According to a local resident, he had travelled to visit a relative who was admitted in a hospital and was on his way to his uncle’s house when Chauhan stopped him.
