NEW DELHI — In an act echoing Mohammad Deepak, a gym owner from Uttarakhand’s Kotdwar, a Hindu youth in Rajasthan’s Churu disrupted an anti-Muslim speech delivered by members of a Hindutva organisation on Wednesday.

The Hindu youth, later identified as Vicky Dudhwa, snatched the microphone as a Hindutva proponent was ranting and raving about the Muslim community. Vicky said he was angered when the speaker openly called for killing Muslims. Others present at the event also supported Vicky in a remarkable display of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood.

A video of this incident is going viral on social media, garnering widespread praise.

Mohammad Deepak, originally Deepak Kumar, gained national attention earlier this year for protecting an elderly Muslim shopkeeper from harassment by right-wing activists. When challenged, he identified himself as “Mohammad Deepak”, and this act of defiance against communalism earned him widespread support, alongside facing local backlash and an FIR.

India is renowned worldwide for its diversity, and the country’s “unity in diversity” is cited as an example. However, communal tensions have increased in the country after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over the reins of power in 1914. Several Hindutva organisations, often with complicity from the state, are constantly trying to spread animosity between Hindus and Muslims. The situation is such that minorities are being targeted with violence through accusations like cow smuggling, ‘land jihad’, ‘love jihad’, and ‘spit jihad’. Appeals have also been made to boycott many festivals and businesses in the name of trade in various areas.
