An anti-caste content creator has alleged that Meta failed to take any action against casteist slurs and the suspension of his account, “Lakhshya Speaks,” through which he educated his followers on the caste system in India and its continued relevance.
Speaking to Maktoob, Lakhshya said that on July 10, his Instagram page “lakhshya_speaks,” which had over 333k followers, was suspended.
“I am a caste educator and I talk about caste issues because I feel that not much is discussed about the caste system and how it still operates. Ever since I started, I have always been targeted by a lot of people, because they are uncomfortable with reservation, or with a conversation on caste,” he said.
Lakhshya Lakey, 26, a graduate of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), started his page a couple of years ago to speak about caste, and it grew over time. He said that from the beginning, he received hate, which only worsened over time.
Usually creating videos on caste issues or reaction videos to savarna accounts spreading misinformation and hate toward the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, Lakhshya’s videos focused on educating the masses. “A lot of people told me how my videos educated them on issues,” he added.
Lakhshya said his videos didn’t sit well with many Hindutva pages and that he regularly received hate via email. “It got so bad that at one point, people asked me my price for cleaning their toilets and used ‘chamar’ as a slur and abuse,” he told Maktoob.
Casteist slurs such as “Bhangi” and “Chamar” are frequently used by upper-caste Hindu communities to demean those from Scheduled Caste backgrounds. These terms have a profound impact on social dynamics, leading to boycotts, segregation, and systemic inequality.
These slurs uphold entrenched caste hierarchies, fueling widespread discrimination and exclusion. The social acceptance of such language creates a hostile environment in which Dalits are frequently targeted and pushed to the margins, facing community-imposed boycotts that lead to both social isolation and economic hardship.
