Bulldozer Drama: BJP-Linked Assam Play Mocking Muslim Demolition Faces Backlash.

By Muslim Mirror Desk

A political skit linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the Assam election campaign has triggered widespread criticism for its portrayal of a Muslim family’s house being demolished.

A video of the performance, which surfaced on social media on Tuesday, May 5, showed actors using a cardboard bulldozer to raze a makeshift house representing a Muslim household.

The play featured performers dressed as Muslim men in skullcaps and dhotis, along with women and children. In various scenes, “authorities” forcibly evicted the family, with a female police constable seen beating Muslim men with lathis as they tried to resist the demolition.

Other officials were shown restraining family members, including children, while an officer oversaw the operation. Audience members reportedly laughed during scenes depicting the family’s suffering and beatings.

The incident has drawn attention to the perceived marginalisation of the minority community in BJP-ruled Assam.

In the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP, secured a record 102 seats out of 126.

The victory was significantly influenced by delimitation of constituencies, which fragmented Muslim-majority areas and merged them with indigenous-dominated regions, effectively diluting the minority vote bank. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier highlighted delimitation as a key factor favouring the BJP in the polls.
