In Delhi’s Pitampura, a mob led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Karnail Singh demolished a structure he described as an “illegal madrasa” allegedly built on land belonging to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
The incident took place on Thursday, May 21, when Singh, accompanied by nearly 80 to 100 supporters and individuals linked to Hindutva organisations, arrived at the site and brought down a boundary wall that was under construction.
Videos from the spot showed a charged crowd raising slogans and tearing down the structure while Singh filmed and circulated the episode on Facebook.
According to residents and eyewitnesses, the demolition was marked by open hostility against Muslims, with abusive and derogatory remarks directed at the community.
Children studying in madrasas were allegedly branded as “terrorists” by members of the mob during the action.
While Singh claimed the structure was an “illegal madrasa” constructed on DDA land and asserted that a court had ordered the land to be vacated, local police officials offered a different account.
