NEW DELHI – Hindutva leader Aadesh Soni publicly threatened to murder individuals accused of cow slaughter during a recent gathering in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh. His violent remarks, made in the presence of police officers, have sparked concern amid ongoing attacks on cattle traders—especially Muslims—by self-styled cow vigilantes.

A video of the event, which took place two days ago, has surfaced on social media. In it, Soni can be seen addressing a crowd holding placards demanding the declaration of the cow as Chhattisgarh’s state animal.

“We have not violated the Indian Constitution so far. But from 1 September, there will be tandav. If we catch anyone slaughtering a cow, we will not hand them over to the police. We will murder them,” Soni shouted to the crowd.

He further declared his willingness to go to jail, saying it is “not a bad place” and that he has been going to jail for 15 years to train and counsel people.

“Now, I have interest to spend time in jail. Do you want to do so?” he asked his supporters, who responded affirmatively.

Soni also alleged that those involved in cow slaughter “have the law in their pocket” and accused officials of protecting the accused.
