On Friday, an event organised for a stone laying ceremony was held at the Huballi Electricity Supply Company project (Hescom). Reportedly, quran recitation was also a part of the event during the felicitation ceremony.
The BJP workers protested against the recitation after the event in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Dharwad. The members also recited Rudra Mantras and the vachanas of Basavanna.
The members expressed their anger and said that the recitation must not have taken place and alleged that it occurred at the government event and not a private one.
The members also performed a ‘havan’ and stated that they did it to “purify the environment.”
Congress leaders, however, dismissed their claims and asserted that the Quran recitation took place at a private event and only during the felicitation programme. Congress Corporator Mangala Gowri and her son Nagaraj Gowri who were the event’s organisers stated, “It was not a government event. Recitation was held only during a private felicitation event.”
They also observed that the official government programme only had the foundation laying ceremony.
