A district court in Haryana’s Nuh has refused to grant bail to members of a hindutva group accused of attacking and kidnapping a madrasa staff member. The judgment comes as a powerful message to those fueling and carrying out hate crimes against Muslims.

Rejecting the bail application filed by the accused, the judge ruled, “The court has a bigger responsibility. It cannot be a mute spectator when hate crimes are brought to its attention. There is no justification for granting bail in this case.”

The attack happened weeks ago. Mehbub, the in-charge of a madrasa in Nuh was attacked by men armed with sticks and rods.

Based on the complaint made by Mehbub, he was attacked twice. The attackers returned with sticks and rods after the first attack before kidnapping him.

Reportedly, the attack was triggered due to the closure of the main gate of the madrasa. Despite making several attempts to explain the attackers that the main gate remains closed when classes are going on, the attackers didn’t stop assaulting Mehbub.

Following his complaint, police arrested the accused who later filed a bail application.

Expressing joy, Talha, the lawyer representing Mehbub said, “It is a small victory for justice amidst the growing targeted attacks on Muslims.”

Talha took note of how the assault was carried out. He told reporters that the FIR clearly mentions that weapons, vehicles were used by the assailants.

Meanwhile, locals and social activists of the area expressed joy over the court’s verdict and hailed the decision. Mehbub and his family also expressed similar sentiments and said that such judgements make them more hopeful in the judicial system.
