Dalit Assistant Professor made to sit on floor at Andhra college after chair removed, sparks outrage (Maktoob Media)

Dalit assistant professor Dr. Ravi has allegedly faced caste discrimination after the principal at SV Veterinary University’s Dairy Technology College in Andhra Pradesh removed the chair from his office, forcing him to work while sitting on the floor.

He alleged that he was on leave on Thursday, and when he returned to the college on Friday and went to his room, he found that there was no chair.

Associate Dean Ravindra Reddy, who had come to test the milk in the existing device, had removed the chair from his room.

Pictures show Dr. Ravi sitting on the floor on a white sheet inside what appears to be his office or chamber, in protest. In front of him is a computer monitor, keyboard, and CPU, with cables running across the floor. Papers and a pen holder lie scattered nearby as he works.

The pictures, which went viral on social media, sparked outrage, with many calling the incident “ridiculous” and “disgusting.”

When Andhra Jyothi, a Telugu-language daily newspaper, sought an explanation from Dean Nageswara Rao regarding the matter, he stated that the Associate Dean had informed him that two chairs had been purchased for the DBM department as needed, and since one of them was found in the Dairy Technology department, it was replaced.
