Datta Ghatge, President of Friends of BJP Thane City, carried out a discriminatory ‘Know Your Vendor’ campaign in Dhokali with BMC workers and a media crew. He interrogated several Muslims about their identity, nationality, and documents. Despite valid ID, he questioned their tenure in Maharashtra and demanded multiple licenses to run their shops. Ghatge assumed they were “Bangladeshi infiltrators”; he asked a Muslim chicken seller and a puncture repairman to show their documents and licenses, targeted another Muslim-run meat shop, and even demanded ID from a domestic worker.
