Nearly a month after a demolition drive near the century-old Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in Delhi’s Turkman Gate–Ramlila Maidan area turned tense, Delhi Police have questioned a Muslim woman social media influencer in connection with the case. Investigators suspect the violence may have been part of a larger “conspiracy” to disturb peace, The Indian Express reported.
The influencer, identified as Aiman Rizwi, allegedly posted a video in the early hours of January 7 about the demolition drive. Police believe the video was among those that contributed to a crowd gathering near the mosque amid fears that it would be demolished.
However, during questioning, Rizwi reportedly told police that she was not present at the site during the demolition and was not involved in the stone-pelting. She said she had obtained anticipatory bail after police issued an arrest warrant against her.
She told The Indian Express that she is a social activist and denied posting any provocative content, saying her video contained no inflammatory remarks and had limited viewership. She also alleged that police officers visited her residence the day after the incident and detained her children for several hours while she was away attending a wedding, and claimed that her mobile phone had been seized as part of the investigation.
