Students of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi, who protested against an event organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Monday, were allegedly assaulted by security guards and detained by Delhi Police.

The protest was against an event titled “Service, organization, culture and the role of youth in a developed India,” held under the banner of the RSS at the college auditorium.

Videos of the incident show protesters, including a woman student, raising slogans of “RSS go back,” being beaten by event organisers before being taken away by security guards.

Four of the students are currently at Jyotinagar police station.

Among the detained, three are cadres of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and one is a Fraternity Movement activist.

Speaking to Maktoob, Lubaib Basheer, national general secretary of Fraternity, said all the detainees should be released immediately. He also raised alarm over how the RSS, a Hindu nationalist militant group, is allowed in a public university.
