Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) allegedly attacked the Students’ Union vice president, councillors and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) members at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in Hyderabad, leaving several students injured.

The violence occurred during the intervening night of August 13 and 14, according to the EFLU Students’ Union and a First Information Report registered by the Osmania University Police.

The Students’ Union said its vice president was verbally and physically assaulted by ABVP members during a protest outside the Mah Laqa Bai Chanda Hostel for Women on August 13. It also alleged that the Arab and Asian councillor was subjected to caste-based slurs.

According to FIR 414/2026, the protest began around 10:30 pm. The complainant, Nikhil Kumar, alleged that ABVP members Viswajeet Singh, Pranav Pathak, Rishabh Singh, Rudra and others used casteist slurs against Rishit Naik and physically assaulted Sonu Raj.

The students subsequently approached the police and submitted a written complaint, the FIR stated.

Around 4 am, a group allegedly entered Basheer Men’s Hostel carrying iron rods, bamboo sticks, beer bottles and belts and attacked the students, reportedly in retaliation for approaching the police.

The complainant alleged that students were surrounded and beaten, while their mobile phones and personal belongings were damaged. Harsh Tamrakar was allegedly struck on the head and neck with a beer bottle, while Sohil Yadav was assaulted with an iron rod and a mirror was broken against his face.

Prashant Singh was allegedly beaten with bamboo sticks and remained unconscious when the complaint was filed. The FIR recorded that four students, including the complainant, were taken to hospital and issued medico-legal case numbers.

The Students’ Union said some injured students were dragged out of bathrooms and into hostel corridors while bleeding. It alleged that the attackers searched rooms for students associated with the NSUI even after the injured had been taken to hospital.
