Muzaffarnagar(UP), Jun 19 (PTI) A groom and his maternal uncle were arrested for allegedly serving beef at a ‘walima’ in Kairana town of Shamli district, police said on Friday.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sumit Shukla said Farman, the groom, Salman, his uncle, and banquet hall owner Anees were booked under the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act.
An SUV allegedly used to carry the meat was seized, along with the alleged meat.
According to a complaint, Farman had got married on June 16 and held a reception on June 18 at Mughal Banquet Hall where beef was served.
The meat was transported in an SUV received as a gift in the marriage, the police claimed.
Other people alleged to be involved in the act are being searched for. PTI COR CDN VN VN
