The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the police carried out a demolition drive in a Muslim-majority locality, claiming it to be an illegal settlement of Bangladeshi immigrants. Residents argued that no notice was served and no evidence was presented to prove that they were Bangladeshi nationals. Earlier, the police had detained and paraded 890 individuals from the area on suspicion of being Bangladeshi immigrants, of whom 300 have been released so far after being identified as Indian citizens.
