Mangaluru: A hate campaign has been going on on social media using old footage claiming that cattle slaughter took place in the forest area of Mugdam Colony in Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada District. After the video and photos went viral, the authorities came forward with an explanation that those were old visuals. The municipality clarified that the viral visuals have no connection with the Bhatkal incident.
The footage available online showed the skeletons and blood stains of cattle, inciting tension in the area. However, police and municipality officials reached the spot and confirmed that what was shown in the visuals was untrue.
Municipal Corporation clarified that the videos and pictures being circulated online are old, and no bones or meat remains of cattle were found during the inspection. When the visuals show rainwater pooling in Mugdam Colony, but Bhatkal has not received any rain for the last three to four days, it confirms that the visuals were old.
Soon after the videos went viral, Sangh Parivar organisations came out in protest, alleging that there was massive cattle slaughter and the government was indifferent.
Meanwhile, the police said that they were investigating the origin of the viral videos and photos. Strict action will be taken against those spreading false information, they said and warned citizens not to believe everything they see on social media without verifying it.
A large quantity of cattle bones has been discovered in the forest area of Mugdam Colony in Bhatkal a few days ago. According to residents, the remains, including bones and bloodstains, were found strewn across a hillside over the past two to three days.
