Prakash Rai, President of Hindu Kranti Dal Assam threatened violence against Christians over alleged religious conversions.
“We won’t file FIRs at police stations. That’s why, repeatedly clarifying from this stage, those Christians who have converted the Hindu society, not just in Assam but have targeted every state of India. They live in a Hindu country, and converting in exchange for money, the Hindu Kranti Dal will not tolerate this. If the conversion of Hindus continues, the Hindu Kranti Dal will stop it in our own style, just like how Lachit Barphukan cut his uncle’s head, saying, “Uncle isn’t greater than the country.”
*Lachit Barphukan was an Ahom general who defeated the Mughals in 1671 and has been politically used in Assam as an allegory for defeating the Muslims in contemporary times. The speech was delivered at a rally to celebrate Hanuman Janmotsav.
