A routine tenancy disagreement at Janapriya Lake Front Society in Kapra, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, escalated into a communally charged confrontation after the managing committee secretary allegedly called a resident couple “Pakistani.”
The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, has sparked outrage over identity-based slurs and communal stereotyping.
In the viral footage, the male resident is seen visibly agitated, forcefully rejecting the label. “Don’t call me Pakistani, I am an Indian,” he asserted, highlighting his family’s patriotic credentials.
He pointed out that his grandfather had served as a Subedar in the Indian Army and demanded an explanation for the questioning of his nationality. The couple further claimed the secretary accused them of being in the country “to plant bombs,” intensifying the emotional exchange.
The secretary was heard asking, “I am just asking if you are a Pakistani, why are you staying here?” Police personnel were present at the scene throughout the argument but did not intervene decisively during the heated moments, according to the couple’s complaints in the video.
According to a Jawahar Nagar Police official, the row originated from a tenancy issue. The secretary had confronted tenant Naseema for allowing the unregistered couple to stay in her flat without informing the society management.
